Whiplash Numbness Pain in Neck and Shoulders

Today we treated a patient who presented with acute pain following a road traffic accident. Even though the patient was concerned over having a ‘slipped disc’, the X-Rays were normal.

The patient complained of neck pain, headaches and shooting pains in the shoulder, arm and hand. Numbness was also experienced.

As indicated in the diagram above, one can see the ‘mapping’ of pain or numbness that arises from when the nerves are irritated in the neck.

On examination there were palpable muscular fixations and rigidities. The muscle spasm and cramps within the neck were aggravating the spinal nerves.

Osteopathic treatment was applied to the cervical spine and the 1st rib was manipulated into position. Osteopathic massage and traction was applied to take the pressure off the nerves in the Brachial Plexus.

Acupuncture was used to calm and loosen the muscles.

Whiplash Cyprus Osteopathy Acupuncture Clinic

Today a patient presented with Whiplash, stiffness, shoulder and neck pain. Pain and numbness were referred into the left arm. Headaches were also a symptom. On Osteopathic examination, there were palpable muscular fixations and rigidities within the neck and shoulder region. The Brachial nerve plexus was irritated around the Scalene muscular group, which presented itself with an elevated 1st rib.

 

From the diagram above, regions of the hand are divided into segments which map out the area (dermatome) of each nerve root that supplies sensation from the vertebrae in the spine i.e. the area C6, refers to the nerve root that leaves the spine at the level between C6 and C7.

Osteopathic massage and manipulation was carried through to loosen the musculature. Osteopathic manipulation of the 1st rib, cervico-thoracic manipulation and thoracic manipulations were applied. Acupuncture was used to work upon regulating the neuro-muscular system.

The patient felt immediate relief of pain and improved movement. We will continue the Osteopathic treatment programme.

Ovarian Cyst Acupuncture Paphos Fertility Clinic

Patient presented to the clinic with a history of Ovarian Cyst (Benign), which was diagnosed by ultrasound. Acupuncture treatment program was applied to encourage hormonal regulation and to remove stagnation of the blood within the uterus and ovaries. Osteopathy was applied to aid circulation via the autonomic nervous system. The patient is feeling much more relaxed and we are looking forward to seeing how the improvement in overall health is going to have on the effect of the size of the tumour. Ultrasound will be used at a later date to determine if there is any decrease in the size of the ovarian cyst.Fertility Cyprus Acupuncture Hormonal Osteopathy Paphos
